Training & Development

We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to work for us. We currently have four apprentices.

Our electrical apprentices complete a 4 year course inclusive of theory and practical work and during this time they work closely with our senior electricians. We work in line with the JTL training scheme.

There is great satisfaction in seeing our apprentices grow in both confidence and skill and seeing them work alone following the completion of all exams and becoming qualified electricians.

Kai Paton has worked for O&O Electrical Ltd for 7 years now.  Kai started with us as an Apprentice straight from school and is now a qualified electrician and a valued member of the team.

We have asked Kai some questions regarding his electrical apprenticeship.

  1. What did your apprenticeship involve?

My apprenticeship started with block weeks at college in Blackbird Leys, as the course progressed I would be at college 1 day per week.  The course moved to Culham part way through for me. The course involved tests, coursework, collating evidence of works completed on site and final exams.

  1. How did it work with O&O Electrical?

I had an interview with O&O Electrical and then completed the JTL aptitude test, I passed this test and was then able to join the JTL Apprenticeship Scheme in September following my GCSEs. O&O Electrical always supported my college time and helped if I had any questions. I was always supported by Senior Electricians whilst working on site.

  1. Are there any aspects of it that really stood out for you?

It was great to earn while you learn, as the best way to learn is by physically doing the job. You would learn new skills at college and quickly adapt and use these skills in the workplace.

  1. What do you get when you finish your apprenticeship?

After 4 years training and passing the final AM2 exam you also receive an NVQ level 3 qualification.  I came out of my apprenticeship with a trade I enjoy, working for O&O Electrical Ltd.  I now have far more responsibility and my own works van.
